We&#8217;ve been out on the road to taste test the green stuff at the hangouts that are reinventing ancient tea culture. You&#8217;ll be feeling zen in no time.</p>

<p>This ultra cool, modern club near Stamford happily allows non-members to enjoy the gorgeous café, where you can grab a tasty brunch, coffee, mushroom tea and a very very good matcha. Choose from hot or iced, strawberry or banana bread matcha. Not green enough? Add a spirulina shot. </p>

<p>They may pride themselves (and rightly so) on the quality of their coffee (their tagline is &#8220;London coffee, country values&#8221;), but matcha lovers may rejoice in the knowledge that you can also be assured of being served a very decent cup of the green stuff at Forge, whether iced, fruity or piping hot, alongside a fabulous selection of cakes and pastries, if you&#8217;re feeling so inclined. </p>

<p>With an ever expanding café empire (that&#8217;s two in Brackley and another just opened in Towcester), we&#8217;re thanking the tea gods that The Old Bakery are serving a fantabulous matcha to go with their rather decent line of doughnuts, cinnamon buns, pastries and scrumptious bagels. Perfect for popping in post Park Run in Towcester too, as you&#8217;ll get a ten percent discount. </p>

<p>Don&#8217;t worry, it&#8217;s not an actual workhouse (well, not anymore) and you won&#8217;t be forced to do the dishes, just relax and sip your matcha in this very cool café at the heart of Brixworth. We&#8217;re having ours with our favourite roast veggie salad &#8211; virtuous <em>and</em> scrumptious &#8211; just like us. </p>

<p>The matcha is good, the staff are lovely, and the food is amazing at both branches. If you&#8217;re really chanelling Gen Z head you can stock up on their fabulous sourdough loaves, baked at the Daventry bakery, and over at Towcester, you can take your pooch along to hang out with you in the sunny, sheltered courtyard. </p>

<p>If you don&#8217;t mind your matcha going a little, err, off-piste, we can highly recommend the iced banana pudding matcha with oat milk &#8211; basically a dessert in a drink and that is never a bad thing. Public also bring the Nutella croissant and freshly baked bread, which they use as the cornerstone for their amazingly good sandwiches (portobello mushroom, mature cheddar and truffle oil? I think so). </p>

<p>Post-padel hunger? Easily resolved. At this oh so stylish rural lifestyle retreat in Rutland, it&#8217;s all about resetting, reconnecting and revelling in the good things – slow mornings, open skies, nourishing food and, yes, a luscious matcha latte. We&#8217;ll take ours with the lobster, crayfish and smoked salmon sarnie please.</p>

<p>Don&#8217;t be misled by the coffee-centric name, the matcha here is exceptionally good. And if you just happen to accidentally-on-purpose acquire a stack of their Swedish Mustikkapulla (blueberry buns, fyi), vanilla and cardamom custard doughnuts and Swedish mud cake, who are we to judge? </p>

<p>We think this lovely pair of Rutland cafés, run by brother and sister duo Tia and Ivo, takes the prize for prettiest bakes, which you can excuse yourself for scoffing because they also organise the fabulous Bun Run, a&nbsp;friendly and relaxed social 5k with a coffee and pastry stop afterwards at Fika Stamford (plua a cheeky 10% discount). Oh and the matcha latte is rather nice too. </p>
