<p>Nestled inconspicuously in the Vale of Belvoir, Bottesford is perfectly situated between Melton Mowbray, Grantham, Newark and Nottingham, benefitting from a fab diversity of culture and attractions nearby, yet it sits peacefully in the shadow of Belvoir Castle. So, whilst keeping up with the neighbours might be a bit of a stretch, property within the village is plentiful and reasonably priced, and the community here is thriving.</p>

<p>We are huge fans of <a href="https://margoandplumcoffeehouse.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Margo and Plum Coffee House</a>, not least because breakfast is served all day long and we&#8217;re rather partial to their almond croissants (which come from the amazing Hambleton Bakery). <a href="https://www.facebook.com/venue12cafeandbar" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Venue 12</a> is a fab café and bistro, or try <a href="https://pauls-restaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Paul&#8217;s</a> for modern European style dishes in a relaxed and friendly setting. </p>



<p><a href="https://www.thethatchbottesford.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Thatch</a> is a lovely foodie pub – they&#8217;d call themselves a restaurant with rooms. The family-friendly <a href="https://therutlandarmsbottesford.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rutland Arms</a> does fantastic pub food and Sunday roasts, as well as live music, and <a href="https://thebullinnbottesfo.wixsite.com/bullinn" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Bull Inn</a> is a proper village pub that prides itself on its collection of Laurel and Hardy memorabilia. Fun fact, the comic pair&nbsp;often visited when it was kept by Stan&#8217;s sister in the 1950&#8217;s.</p>



<p>Further afield, less than 10 mins by car (and actually within walking distance if you fancy it) there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.belvoircastle.com/the-engine-yard-at-belvoir-castle/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Belvoir Bistro</a> at The Engine Yard at Belvoir Castle, perfect for brunch or lunch when you’re out and about for the day, visiting the castle or doing a spot of shopping. If you’re here at the weekend, try the wood-fired pizza or calzone. You can also indulge in a spot of afternoon tea in the Aviary Tea Room at <a href="https://www.belvoircastle.com/book-tickets-afternoon-tea/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Belvoir Castle</a>, where afternoon tea was originally invented, no less.</p>

<p><a href="https://margoandplum.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Margo and Plum</a> Coffee house (as mentioned above) is actually an extension of a fabulously maximalist interiors store of the same name so, if you&#8217;re moving in, furnishing your new home will be a doddle. The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.engineyardbelvoir.com/the-belvoir-farmshop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Farm Shop</a>&nbsp;at the Engine Yard at Belvoir Castle is open 7 days a week and sells gorgeous things from nearby farms and artisan producers, as well as meat sourced directly from the Belvoir Estate. </p>



<p>You can also indulge your inner interiors obsessive at the divine new <a href="https://www.torimurphy.com/collections/fabric" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tori Murphy</a> HQ selling fabrics, made-to-measure curtains and blinds, soft furnishings, lighting and accessories. It’s their only UK store outside of the concessions at Harrods and Selfridges. There&#8217;s also <a href="https://soapary.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Soapary</a>, <a href="https://www.engineyardbelvoir.com/store/the-duchess-gallery/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Duchess Gallery</a> and the <a href="https://thegrangegc.co.uk/the-grange-at-belvoir-castle/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Grange</a> garden centre on site at The Engine Yard and there&#8217;s a decent butchers and a Co-op in the village too.</p>

Nearby, <a href="https://baronseden.com/eden-hall/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eden Hall</a> Day Spa (above) is the perfect pamper spot, with a fitness suite and stunning indoor and outdoor pools just fifteen minutes up the road.</p>

<p>Clubs in the village include two for&nbsp;badminton, a&nbsp;bowling&nbsp;club, a&nbsp;cricket&nbsp;and social club, four&nbsp;football&nbsp;clubs, Scouts&nbsp;and&nbsp;Guides and a youth club, plus there&#8217;s a&nbsp;skate park, outdoor gym equipment and a children&#8217;s play area. There&#8217;s also a local community newsletter delivered FOC within the village, plus allotments and a huge car boot sale. Oh and if you&#8217;re naughty there&#8217;s a Grade II listed&nbsp;stocks&nbsp;and&nbsp;whipping post.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.belvoircastle.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Belvoir Castle</a>, of course, a&nbsp;Grade I listed pile owned by the Duke and Duchess of Rutland with an epic outdoor adventure play area for kids along with the The Engine Yard artisan shopping village. There&#8217;s also<a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/nottinghamshire-lincolnshire/belton-estate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> National Trust Belton</a> (above) in nearby Grantham, a flagship NT property covering 1,300 acres with formal gardens, parkland and an adventure playground, plus a incredible annual Christmas light trail. Don&#8217;t miss <a href="https://www.littlejacksfarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Little Jack&#8217;s Farm and Garden Centre</a>, a family run children&#8217;s farm and garden centre on the outskirts of Bottesford. </p>

<p>Just 20 mins up the road, <a href="https://www.newarkfestival.co.uk/">Newark Festival</a>&nbsp;takes place every year with a finale performance in the dramatic castle grounds.&nbsp;<a href="https://gallery6newark.co.uk/">Gallery 6</a><strong>&nbsp;</strong>is a gorgeous gallery space with an ever-revolving show of contemporary pieces. And for shows, music and more, try the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.palacenewark.com/">Palace Theatre</a>. Head west for Nottingham’s vibrant cultural scene, where you&#8217;ll find galleries like&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nottinghamcontemporary.org/">Nottingham Contemporary</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lakesidearts.org.uk/">Lakeside Arts</a> and for theatres and music there’s the <a href="https://trch.co.uk/">Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk/">Nottingham Playhouse</a>, whilst for big gigs there&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.motorpointarenanottingham.com/">Motorpoint Arena</a>.</p>

<p>Bottesford Primary School in the village is Ofsted rated Good, as is The Priory Belvoir Academy state secondary. For independent schools the excellent&nbsp;<a href="https://nottinghamgirlshigh.gdst.net/">Nottingham Girls’ High School</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://nottinghamhigh.co.uk/">Nottingham High School</a>&nbsp;are both within easy striking distance of Bottesford.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-nbsp-kept-nbsp-secret">BEST&nbsp;KEPT&nbsp;SECRET</h2>



<p>In 1618, Francis Manners, sixth Earl of Rutland accused three local women, Joan, Phillipa and Margaret Flower of murdering his two sons, Henry and Francis by witchcraft. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>The village is served by&nbsp;Bottesford railway station, with trains to Nottingham taking under 25 mins. From Nottingham, trains to London St Pancras take around 90 mins, so quite a trek if you&#8217;re thinking of regular commuting. An annual season ticket will set you back over £11,000. </p>
