<p>Known for its famous&nbsp;Melton Mowbray&nbsp;Pork Pie and Stilton Cheese, Melton is also known as Britain&#8217;s Rural Capital&nbsp;of Food. If you visit or decide to stay, don&#8217;t forget to pack your elasticated trousers – you&#8217;ll need them.</p>

<p>The family-run <a href="https://theanneofcleves.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Anne of Cleves</a> is the oldest pub in Melton. This 14th century pub and beer garden is steeped in history, once having been owned by Thomas Cromwell, and nestled in the heart of the market town under the watchful eye of St. Mary’s Church. </p>



<p>The <a href="https://www.tapandrun.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tap &amp; Run</a> in nearby Upper Broughton is owned by<em> </em>cricketers&nbsp;Stuart Broad (that&#8217;s Mr Mollie King to you) and Harry Gurney and serves up the ingenious cricket bat sharing boards. Cheese lovers, shouldn&#8217;t miss the traditional cheesemonger on Windsor Street <a aria-label="The Melton Cheeseboard. (opens in a new tab)" href="http://meltoncheeseboard.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Melton Cheeseboard</a> and check our new-ish café, <a href="https://kitchenandcoffee.co.uk/melton-menus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kitchen and Coffee</a> on Sherrard Street serving everything from breakfast to burgers. Worth checking out <a href="https://porkpie.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ye Old Pork Pie </a>Shoppe too, it was originally a bakery and opened in 1851 and pies have been made in the same shop for over 170 years.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shop">SHOP</h2>



<p>It&#8217;s more about food here than fashion, so check out Melton Mowbray&#8217;s weekly <a href="https://meltonmowbraymarket.co.uk/farmersmarket/">Farmers&#8217; Market</a> (Tues and Fri) where local producers sell directly to the public – expect meat, veg, fish, cheese and food trucks and artisan coffee. For all else, head to Oakham, Peterborough or Leicester.</p>

<p> Enjoy a brewery tour at <a href="https://www.belvoirbrewery.co.uk/">Belvoir Brewery</a> or, of you&#8217;ve got kids in tow try <a href="https://www.twinlakespark.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Twin Lakes<strong> </strong></a>– it&#8217;s the perfect theme park – not too big and not too small and is packed full with rides, animals, a small splash park, even a little sandy beach.  </p>

<p>Check out the <a href="https://www.stkyard.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stockyard Melton Mowbray </a>&#8211; this 1,000-year-old market moved here back in 1869. Held every second Saturday of the month for Stockyard Saturday where you can expect a smorgasbord of great food and indie traders and other events take here pretty much every month. </p>

Here you can check out exhibitions on the town&#8217;s world-renowned Stilton cheese and pork pie industries and its history of fox hunting. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.facebook.com/LittleRascalsDayNurseriesMelton" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Little Rascals</a> has two day nurseries in the town. Kids here regularly visit a local Forest School set in woodland just outside Melton and run by a fully-qualified Level 3 Forest School leader. Parents rave about this place and for good reason.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.sherardschool.org/contact-details/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sherard Primary School </a>is a small and friendly primary school for kids aged 2 – 11 yrs. <a href="https://lsf.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Loughborough Schools Foundation</a>&nbsp;is a collective of four selective, independent, private schools and includes&nbsp;Loughborough Grammar School, an all-boys’ secondary school,&nbsp;Loughborough High School, a girls’ secondary school,&nbsp;Fairfield Preparatory School, a co-ed prep and&nbsp;Loughborough Amherst School. There&#8217;s also Catholic independent school&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ratcliffecollege.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ratcliffe College</a> a co-ed for ages 3 – 18 yrs, with boarding from age 11 yrs.</p>

<p>The boutique<a href="https://regalcinemamelton.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Regal Cinema</a> on King Street is a stylish Art Deco-style cinema that shows mainstream and classic films.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>It&#8217;s 103 miles to London, which is less than an hour direct into Kings Cross St Pancras, but you&#8217;ll need to get to Leicester station which is around a 15-min drive. An annual season train ticket is £10,664. To drive, you’re looking at 2 hrs 20 mins.</p>
