This rural enclave is a foodie&#8217;s paradise, choc full of local cheesemakers, distilleries and bakeries to keep the larder well stocked, and the cottage sits right at the heart of Wymeswold in sight of the village church and with two pubs close by. Once a village shop, the house been cleverly converted into a fabulous home, retaining many of the character features such as exposed oak beams, fireplaces and the original shop front.</p>

<p>Attention to detail is everything, so think high end appliances, a shaker-style fitted kitchen, a boot room to store all your gubbins, washing machine, two spacious living areas and a games room in addition to the large open plan kitchen diner with Crittall style doors opening onto the terrace and garden, where you&#8217;ll find a BBQ and comfy outside sofas for lounging on sunny days. There&#8217;s a trampoline and playhouse in the garden for the kiddos, so you can just relax and get stuck into what ever you&#8217;ve got chilling in the wine fridge, and you can even request hot tub hire for the property if you want to get super indulgent. </p>

<p>You&#8217;ll find wood burning stoves in both main living areas, with some logs provided, so if you&#8217;re here during the colder months you can snuggle up by the fire and get really cosy. The decor is seriously stylish, with deep upholstered chairs, plush velvet sofas and large table lamps carefully placed so you don&#8217;t ever have to resort to using the big light. They&#8217;ve really thought of everything, even down to little side tables  &#8211; styled with elegant vignettes &#8211; in all the right places for when you might want to put your wine glass down for a minute. </p>

<p>The drive has space for at least three cars, perfect for those coming as a larger group, and the cottage sleeps up to ten, so it&#8217;s actually deceptively big. All the rooms are capacious and the space flows beautifully, easily accommodating larger parties but, equally, if you&#8217;re just four and a dog, as we were, you don&#8217;t feel as though you&#8217;re rattling around because the space really does envelope you. In fact, you&#8217;ll probably never want to leave.</p>

<p>Upstairs there are a five large and super comfy double bedrooms spread out across the length of the cottage (honestly, are we still calling this house a cottage? It&#8217;s pretty huge). The Master Suite is the <em>pièce de résistance</em>, with a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden and a vaulted, double height ceiling as well as an adjoining dressing area with plenty of clothes storage and bathroom with a roll top bath and separate waterfall shower. Oh and extra points for the gorgeously indulgent Bamford toiletries . </p>

<p>The super spacious open plan kitchen diner is beautifully appointed, with an enormous kitchen island and white granite worktops, an Everhot cooker (plenty of capacity for chucking in a roast dinner for the whole clan), boiling water tap (no waiting for the kettle to boil) and a coffee machine that sits inside a specially designated coffee cupboard. Did we mention the wine fridge? We approve. There&#8217;s also a huge chunky wood dining table, making it brilliant for gathering with family and friends. We were provided with a basket full of goodies on arrival, including the essential bread, milk and butter, plus crisps, popcorn, crackers and sweets, so even if you haven&#8217;t had time to stock up at the local farm shop, you won&#8217;t go hungry. </p>

<p>Don&#8217;t fancy slaving away over a hot stove? <a href="https://westaygroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">We Stay</a> can organise a private chef to come to the house and conjure up something fabulous for you, or take your pick from one of Wymeswold&#8217;s two pubs. You can actually see <a href="https://threecrownswymeswold.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Three Crowns</a> from the house if you strain your neck a bit, so it&#8217;s a very easy stagger home after some traditional pub grub &#8211; think fish and chips and homemade pies. We ventured slightly further afield for Sunday lunch, about twenty minutes away, to <a href="https://www.griffininnswithland.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Griffin</a> in Swithland (above), an absolute corker of a gastropub owned by cricketers Stuart Broad and Harry Gurney, where there is a distinctly cricket themed decor vibe and fantastic spaces for al fresco dining. </p>

<p>If you don&#8217;t fancy leaving the the village for the duration, there&#8217;s plenty of peaceful country walks to keep you here &#8211; the Macmillan Way long distance walking route intersects the village &#8211; but if you&#8217;re venturing further afield, Melton Mowbray, just fifteen minutes by car, is known as Britain’s Rural Capital&nbsp;of Food and famous for&nbsp;Melton Mowbray&nbsp;Pork Pie and Stilton Cheese. The foodie community is strong, with numerous festivals throughout the year including the&nbsp;East Midlands Food Festival, Pie Fest,&nbsp;Choc Festival and the&nbsp;Artisan Cheese Fest.</p>



<p>In Wymeswold itself there&#8217;s also the fabulous <a href="https://glastonbudget.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Glastonbudget</a>&nbsp;festival. We’re talking all the best cover acts from Madonna, Oasis, Abba, Fat Boy Slim and Kate Bush, to Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and tons more, but without the insane price tag. And after all that fun, you may fancy a spot of pampering, so head to nearby <a href="https://www.ragdalehall.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ragdale Hall </a>for a spa day.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-accessibility">ACCESSIBILITY</h2>



<p>You&#8217;re really living the quirky country cottage dream here, so the bedrooms are all accessed via a fairly steep staircase and, downstairs, there are quite a few steps up and down between living spaces.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dog-friendly">DOG-FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Yes, we took our family dog along, but it&#8217;s worth noting that the garden is not gated and is open to the road. </p>

It would also make the ideal crash pad if you&#8217;re looking for wedding accommodation &#8211; Prestwold Hall (above) is just five minutes up the road &#8211; or if you&#8217;re heading to Trent Bridge for the cricket. </p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> We&#8217;re talking peaceful, rural retreat, so if it&#8217;s action and nightlife you&#8217;re after this may not be the one for you.</p>
