<p>The extended Muddy tribe decamped to Silverstone over the Bank Holiday, seeking thrills and *quite a bit* of noisy engine revving on Festival Saturday. We were not disappointed, soaking up the sunshine and fabulously family-friendly entertainment. If you haven&#8217;t been to Silverstone Festival before, do not miss it next year, it really is the most fun you can have on a racetrack. Arm yourself with a pair of comfy shoes and a daypack, we&#8217;re going in.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cars">Cars</h2>

<p>From rallying demos to retro racing cars, monster trucks and death-defying stunt shows, cars are the stars of Silverstone Festival -it&#8217;s a petrolheads paradise and cars are where it all started, so there&#8217;s more than a century of motor racing history here. All those engines can get a tad noisy and fast so, if you like a slightly more sedate way of life, there are plenty of utterly beautiful (and stationary) vintage cars on display to admire. We managed to find the exact model of 1967 Triumph Spitfire that my parents drove down to Spain back in the day, which unlocked some memories for the old folk and it was a big thrill to check out an array of Formula 1 cars, including Lewis Hamilton&#8217;s 2017 F1 winning Mercedes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-foodie-fest">Foodie Fest</h2>



<p>If you do get car fatigue (unlikely, I know), you can head to the Foodie Fest, where we found a mindboggling variety of locally-sourced produce to sample in the Tasting Tent, plenty of treats to take home in the Made In Northamptonshire Artisan Market, and top tips from celebrated chefs at Silverstone Kitchen Live &#8211; we caught food demo&#8217;s from Masterchef champion Brin Pirathapan and GBBO&#8217;s fab Karen Wright. A visit to Diddly Squat Farm Shop is an absolutely must, of course &#8211; after all, who <em>doesn&#8217;t</em> want a jar of honey bearing Jeremy Clarkson&#8217;s face?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-kids">Kids</h2>



<p>My crew of feral teens could not be dragged away from the Adrenaline Zone, where there&#8217;s a huge amount of high octane fun of all ages from the fairly sedate (but very high &#8211; great views of the track) ferris wheel to Monster Truck Mania, bungee trampolining, a skate zone, as well as my 15 year old&#8217;s favourite, The Hulk, which was terrifying even to watch, with lots of very high up spinning around (I sat that one out) and the Euro Flyer (below), which even my Mum (in her 70s) couldn&#8217;t resit a go on. </p>

<p>There were also loads of free fun activities to get involved in too, from giant Jenga and darts to football and basketball games &#8211; a big hit with my 13 year old nephew who <em>almost</em> managed to get the top score for his age group. There was so much we didn&#8217;t get to do, from glitter fece-paint to a silent disco &#8211; next year we&#8217;ll definitely be making the time to spend more than just one day at the festival as it is absolutely epic. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-museum">Museum</h2>



<p>We&#8217;ve visited a few times before, so didn&#8217;t make it this time around, but whilst you&#8217;re a the festival, don&#8217;t miss out on a visit to <a href="https://www.silverstonemuseum.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Silverstone Museum</a> if you haven&#8217;t been before. It&#8217;s free to visit for ticket holders, taking visitors on a rollercoaster journey through more than 70 years of racing history and innovation.</p>

<p>A festival just isn&#8217;t a festival without some bangin&#8217; tunes, and there is no one better to bring the house down than Sir [sic] Crag David himself, who headlined the stage on Saturday night. The vibe was truly incredible with the whole crowd singing and bopping along. It was what you might call proper bo. A perfect end to the perfect day. </p>
