<p>Filming for Emerald Fennell&#8217;s multi-Bafta nominated TikTok sensation <em>Saltburn</em> took place across a couple of Northamptonshire locations in 2022. Deene Park’s 18th-century bridge was used for the Catton family stone-throwing scenes, whilst the jaw-dropping Drayton House in Lowick featured as Saltburn itself, including that infamous bath scene and Barry Keoghan&#8217;s <em>Murder on the Dancefloor</em> nudie boogie. </p>

<p>So magnificent it&#8217;s known as the English Versailles, <a href="https://www.boughtonhouse.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Boughton House</a> near Kettering played host to Oscar winning actor Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby (the young Princess Margs in <em>The Crown</em>) where they were shooting <em>Napoleon,</em> a biopic of Napoleon Bonaparte directed by Sir Ridley Scott.</p>

<p>Northamptonshire&#8217;s beautiful Lamport Hall starred as Windsor Castle&#8217;s stable block in the the final episode of Netflix drama <em>The Crown</em>, with both Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton. In the scene (purely speculative peeps), the Queen has a bit of a word with herself about whether it&#8217;s time for her to abdicate. The Drawing Room at Lamport was also used to represent Clarence House in scenes starring Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles. Other scenes were shot in nearby Oundle, and Leicestershire&#8217;s glorious Belvoir Castle also featured as Windsor Castle in seasons 1-3 (above).</p>

<p>Luxe spa hotel <a href="https://www.rushtonhall.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rushton Hall </a>was featured as Robyn and Matthew’s magnificent but somewhat ill-fated wedding venue in series 4 of the BBC drama <em>Strike, Lethal White</em>, based on the thriller by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling).</p>

<p>Also starring <em>Strike</em> actor Tom Burke, local legend Alan Moore’s (<em>V For Vendetta, Watchmen, Swamp Thing</em>…) sinister depiction of Northampton <em>The Show</em> was filmed at <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://delapreabbey.org/" target="_blank">Delapré Abbey</a> in Northampton.</p>

<p>In addition to being used as variety of locations for <em>Napoleon</em>, Boughton House has also been used as a location on the 2012 film <em>Les Misérables</em>, starring Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried and Hugh Jackman. Fun fact: Boughton also hosted the Muddy Award Winners Drinks reception back in 2021, so they&#8217;re in great company.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-pride-and-prejudice-1995-and-2005"><em>Pride and Prejudice</em> (1995 and 2005)</h2>

<p>Edgcote Hall in the peaceful village of Edgcote was used as Netherfield Park in the 1995 miniseries <em>Pride and Prejudice</em>, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. It&#8217;s a private house, but you can gaze at the beautiful facade from the winding track in front. </p>



<p>Joe Wright&#8217;s later film version of <em>Pride and Prejudice</em> (2005) starring Keira Knightly and Matthew MacFadyen&nbsp;uses Montagu’s Hospital, a former almshouse that forms part of the Boughton estate near Kettering, as the home of Mr. Collins&#8217; (Tom Hollander).</p>

<p>More Colin Firth (he can&#8217;t seem to stay away). <em>Kingsman: The Golden Circle</em> (2017), in which Colin (we&#8217;re on first name terms now, obvs) stars alongside Taron Egerton and Julianne Moore, was filmed at <a href="https://althorpestate.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Althorp</a>, the childhood home of Lady Di. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who lives with Mrs Vaughn (aka Claudia Schiffer) in the Northants village of Culworth.</p>

<p>In 2011, <a href="https://www.holdenby.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Holdenby House</a> was transformed into&nbsp;Satis House in&nbsp;the BBC&nbsp;adaptation&nbsp;of&nbsp;Charles Dickens’&nbsp;<em>Great Expectations</em>, starring Gillian Anderson as the jilted Miss Havisham. Another fun fact, Holdenby also hosted the 2022 Muddy Awards Winners drinks. I see a theme developing here.</p>

<p>And speaking of Gillian Anderson she starred alongside Stephen Fry, Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan in 2005 slapstick comedy <em>A Cock and Bull Story</em>, which was shot at a number of Northants hotspots including Lamport Hall (below) Deene Park and English Heritage property Kirby Hall. </p>

<p>Perhaps the jewel in the Northants cinematic crown, 2005&#8217;s <em>Kinky Boots</em>, starring Oscar nominated Chiwetel Ejiofor (<em>12 Years a Slave</em>). Celebrating (maybe that&#8217;s a slight stretch) our historic shoe industry and filmed across a number of Northants locations including the iconic Trickers factory in Northampton. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-da-vinci-code-2003">The Da Vinci Code (2003)</h2>

<p>Ron Howard&#8217;s Oscar winning adaptation of Dan Brown&#8217;s <em>The Da Vinci Code</em>, starred, not only the perennially likeable Tom Hanks as Langdon, but also Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire as the Pope&#8217;s summer residence, Castel Gandolfo.</p>

<p><em>Another Country</em> follows classmates Guy (Rupert Everett) and Tommy (Colin Firth) as they find comfort in friendship during their time at an elite British public school in the &#8217;30s. Deene Park&#8217;s ever-popular stone bridge and East Front feature, and a wooden dock was constructed along the edge of the lake.</p>

<p>In the BBC miniseries of <em>Jane Eyre</em>, Deene Park was also used as the setting of Thornfield Hall with filming taking place in and around the grounds, inside the courtyard, and on the roof for the dramatic fire scene. </p>
